Get Me Out The Four Walls

Supporting parents to get out of the house to better their mental wellbeing

  • Access: Drop-in

Get Me Out The Four Walls is a national charity which supports parents and families in Norfolk.
Parenthood can be a very stressful, lonely and isolating experience at times which can cause the onset of various mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and postnatal depression. GMOTFW tackles this loneliness by giving parents somewhere to go for some non-judgemental, like minded conversation and a chance to engage with others in the same situation. This is achieved through volunteer “Ambassadors” who arrange social meets and events for parents to attend. All ambassadors are fellow parents who want to help and offer the “lived in”experience to members.

Our volunteer Ambassadors host meet ups in their communities for parents to get together, make friends and seek friendly peer support. Meet ups are held anywhere from local cafes, parks and libraries, to days out at the beach and the zoo. They also offer quieter meets for mums with postnatal depression and anxiety and will soon be able to provide one to one support.

We have also opened the doors to our new GMOTFW Hub which is a self contained space within the grounds of The Hewett Academy in Lakenham, Norwich. The Hub is open Monday to Friday between 10am and 2pm to offer a drop in service for parents who need support, want to meet others or for those who just want to get out of their own four walls for a quiet cuppa. Our Ambassadors host sessions at the GMOTFW Hub including crafts, gardening, bounce & rhyme sessions and stay & play mornings to help parents who may not feel comfortable going to mainstream busy groups.

The GMOTFW Hub also has meeting spaces available for local organisations/charities to hire for meetings and events.
