Users Agreement

Sharers’ Rules:

Please carefully read the Users Agreement before using Lumi to share an item. By using Lumi as a Sharer, you are agreeing to these rules (the "Sharers' Rules") as well as our Terms & Conditions.

Lumi

Lumi is a website connecting Sharers and Borrowers across Norwich; it is important to remember that Lumi is not part of that transaction.

By becoming a member of Lumi you are acknowledging that:

  • You are not sharing with Lumi but to another member of Lumi; and
  • Lumi does not guarantee or endorse any member, content or communication posted (such as photographs, language, description used in listings).

Communicating with Lumi members

You can communicate directly with Borrowers on Lumi when they contact you via the "Contact / Book" feature. This is a good way to find out more information about the person who is looking to borrow your item, and inform them of any conditions / hire agreements etc. However, you may not use this feature for the following:

  • Sending unsolicited advertising or promotions, requests for donations or spam;
  • Contacting someone after they have requested you not to;
  • Harassing or abusing another user;
  • Any fraudulent or unlawful purpose.

Sharing Listings

By offering to share you agree that you have provided an honest, accurate description about your item and its condition, including any additional information required.

What can’t be shared on Lumi?

Members use Lumi to share a range of items; you are permitted to list items as long as this does not violate any statutory provisions, good morals or any of our terms and conditions.

We do restrict the sharing of activities to those that are only of benefit to the community. Our FAQ goes into more depth with this.

We reserve the right to remove any items from Lumi if we feel that, for whatever reason, it is inconsistent with our values or would represent a danger to the safety of the Borrower and / or another.

Insurance

Sharers are responsible to ensure they hold appropriate insurance for any listings. You will need to contact your existing insurance company as it is possible this won’t be included in your current insurance cover.

If you choose not to, you run the risk of having to replace damaged or lost items at your own expense and / or find yourself liable for any damage or injury caused by your item.

You can also mitigate your risk by introducing some simple actions:

  • Use a hire form
  • Take a photo of the item at the time of sharing and ask your borrower to do the same
  • Ask Borrower to sign the hire form as confirmation of the items condition
  • For any electrical item, ensure it is PAT tested and is listed on your certificate
  • Ensure you provide the Borrower with any safety procedures.
  • For higher risk items such as a gazebo provide clear guidance on its safe use.

Alternatively for high value goods, Sharers may deem it appropriate to request a deposit or a small hire fee or if you are particularly concerned something will get damaged, please don’t share it.

It remains the Borrowers responsibility to replace any broken or damaged item. It is the sharers responsibility to liaise with the Borrower over this to how the item will be replaced.
