I’m a retired senior software developer with many years’ experience helping UK charities and community organisations make better use of their data and digital systems.

I specialise in practical, affordable solutions that fit how charities actually work — from small volunteer-run groups to larger organisations with reporting and compliance needs. Much of my recent work has been pro bono or low-cost, supporting charities that don’t have in-house technical staff.

What I can help with
• Volunteer management systems – tracking volunteers, activities, hours, skills, and engagement
• Charity databases & CRMs – designing or improving systems to manage people, projects, and support activity
• Data & reporting for funders – producing clear reports, dashboards, and exports to support funding applications and trustee reporting
• Process automation – reducing admin using spreadsheets, databases, and simple web apps
• System design & clean-up – untangling messy spreadsheets or legacy systems and putting better structures in place
• Web applications – responsive, mobile-friendly systems built around real user needs

Technical background
• Software development: C#, ASP.NET, JavaScript, SQL, HTML, CSS
• Databases & data modelling: SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL
• Modern platforms: Supabase, REST APIs, cloud-hosted systems
• Reporting & analysis: Google Sheets, Excel, Looker Studio
• Strong focus on data protection, role-based access, and GDPR-aware design

How I work
• I translate technical ideas into plain English
• I’m comfortable working with staff, trustees, and volunteers
• I focus on simple, sustainable solutions, not over-engineering
• I’m happy to support existing systems or help design something new

If your charity needs help getting more value from its data, reducing admin, or building a system that actually fits your work on the ground, I’d be glad to talk.
