Built alongside the beautiful medieval church of St Augustine's in 1915 as the parish's community rooms the Hall is still in the care of the Church of England who use it for Christian worship on Sundays. At other times it is hireable 0900-2100 depending on availability. Please note that the Hall is closed for hire during Easter Week (between Palm Sunday and Easter Bank Holiday Monday) and over Christmas between 24 and 31 December.
The Hall offers a modern, carpeted, centrally heated and comfortably furnished venue with a range of lighting (dimmer up-lights, florescent, LED spots) in a long, rectangular, village-hall type setting. The maximum capacity is 60, though the Hall is also suitable for smaller groups. There is a fully equipped kitchen and two toilets, one wheel-chair adapted. A portable ramp is available for access through the main double doors. There is a paved and grassed area at the front of the Hall that may be used, though access to it cannot be exclusive to the hirer as the space is crossed by a footpath used by local residents. Please note the Hall is not directly accessible by motor vehicle and there is no car park. Time-limited parking spaces may be found on nearby streets (Sussex St & Leonards St carpark) and in nearby commercial pay & display car parks behind Anglia Square and at the end of Chatham street.
Covid-19: from 19 July 2021 St Augustine's Hall is once again available to hire without social distancing. Hall users may open windows to increase ventilation if they wish (but please do remember to close and latch them when you leave!) Hand sanitiser is available and the premises is thoroughly cleaned twice a week.
Hire rates from 1 January 2022: £13 for one hour, £21 for two hours and each subsequent hour £6. The Hall may be also be booked for children’s birthday parties (aged 12 and younger only) for which there is a fixed fee of £30 payable in advance for a maximum of 4 hours, including set-up and clear away times. There is a returnable deposit of £10 in case of any damage or if any extra cleaning is necessary. You are advised to read the Hall's terms & conditions before hiring.
